Wheeling Gateway Center

Wheeling, WV · Visitor & Heritage Center · In construction, 2026

Arrow is Structural Engineer of Record for the Wheeling Gateway Center, a new visitors and heritage center on a remediated downtown site where the Ohio River meets the historic Wheeling Suspension Bridge. The three-story structure is framed in structural steel and concrete on a deep foundation of concrete caissons. The building has a prominent entry canopy, extensive glazing and a second-floor rooftop deck that open it to river and bridge views. A patio and bridge structure carries visitors down to the Wheeling Heritage Trail; Arrow specified it as a delegated precast, prestressed concrete assembly. Arrow's services run from design development through construction administration.

Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital

Fairmont, WV · Healthcare, Emergency Department (Risk Cat. IV) · Completed 2023

Arrow helped renovate the former Middletown Commons retail building in Fairmont into the Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital. The central challenge was turning a light-framed mall building into a Risk Category IV emergency department. Arrow strengthened the existing unreinforced masonry walls so the building meets current code requirements for an essential facility.

Mineral County Courthouse Complex

Keyser, WV · Civic / Municipal · Completed 2025

As Structural Engineer of Record, Arrow led the renovation and expansion of the Mineral County Courthouse Complex: the courthouse, sheriff's office and judicial annex. The work added a second-story expansion, new elevators, secure corridors and a high-density records vault. All structural work was phased so the complex stayed occupied and operational throughout construction.

Bridgeport Fire Department

Bridgeport, WV · Public Safety · Completed 2022

Arrow provided structural design for the Bridgeport Fire Department's station in Bridgeport, West Virginia. The building combines masonry bearing walls, concrete slabs and structural steel framing. Arrow also designed the exposed structural steel roof trusses, painted red, that are a signature feature of the station.

Spencer Middle School

Spencer, WV · Education · School Expansion

Spencer Middle School is a large addition to the existing Roane County High School in Spencer, West Virginia. The structure uses deep foundations and masonry walls. The foundation system was complex because of the hillside's original contours and the fill that had been placed on top of it over the years.

Samuel, Son & Co.

Pittsburgh, PA · Light Industrial · 85,000 SF

Arrow provided structural design for an 85,000 SF industrial crane facility developed by Chapman Properties, a 2025 NAIOP Pittsburgh Award recipient. The concrete slab foundation resists the heavy concentrated loads and dynamic forces of the building's bridge crane system and high-load cantilever shelving. The primary framing supports significant crane loads, large open spans and vertical storage, and the building also houses office space within the same footprint.

YMCA Liberty Village

Charleston, WV · Affordable Housing / Historic Adaptive Reuse

As Structural Engineer of Record, Arrow helped convert Charleston's historic YWCA building into 48 units of affordable senior housing. The design uses a multi-story wood truss framing system on a shallow foundation.

Discovery World on Market

Parkersburg, WV · Adaptive Reuse / Historic · Completed 2022

Arrow provided structural assessment and adaptive-reuse design to turn Parkersburg's 1915 Masonic Temple into Discovery World on Market, a modern children's museum. Non-destructive testing established the capacity of the historic construction. Arrow then designed how the museum's new program loads would be carried by the existing structure while preserving the building's character.

Nichols Heir

Sevierville, TN · Commercial · Event Venue

Nichols Heir is an event venue made up of a Great Hall, a Glass House and an outdoor Pavilion. Timber and steel trusses create long clear spans, tall rooflines and open interiors, and they are left exposed as architectural features. Concealed steel members carry the loads and lateral forces behind the timber. In the Glass House, floor-to-ceiling glazing up to 26 feet tall required hidden structural framing to manage wind and roof loads without interrupting the views.

Pace Place

Star City, WV · Multi-Unit Residential · 9,000 SF

Arrow provided structural design for PACE Place, a single-story, 9,000 SF wood-frame building that provides specialized housing for individuals with disabilities. The structure was laid out around the residents' needs: 12 private suites, a shared kitchen and on-site laundry. Its location near a bus stop shaped pedestrian access and site integration, which were factored into the structural design.

William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital, HVAC Renovation

Weston, WV · Healthcare, Phased 24/7 Modernization · Completed 2025

Arrow provided structural design for the HVAC modernization at William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital. The scope covered piping-enclosure framing, fuel-tank foundations, generator pads and cooling-tower foundations. All of it was phased around the hospital's continuous 24/7 operations.

Chapman Westport, Building 300

Pittsburgh, PA · Light Industrial · 108,000 SF Tilt-Up

Building 300 is a 108,000 SF tilt-up warehouse in Chapman Properties' 300-acre Class-A industrial park, following Buildings 100 and 200. Arrow ran multiple iterations of the tilt-up wall panels, roof framing and foundations to refine load paths, reduce material and keep pace with a fast schedule. Panel shop drawings were built directly into the contract documents, which cut review time and questions during construction. The building uses One-Dek composite roof decking, steel joists and a tilt-up concrete envelope.

Pioneer Appalachia Federal Credit Union

Morgantown, WV · Commercial · University Towne Centre

Arrow was Structural Engineer of Record for the Pioneer Appalachia Federal Credit Union branch, a local bank at University Towne Centre in Morgantown, and designed every aspect of the structure. The light-framed wood structure kept construction economical while still meeting the architect's vision for the building.

Ascend Morgantown

Morgantown, WV · Adaptive Reuse · Coworking Space

Arrow provided structural engineering for Ascend Morgantown, a coworking space designed for focus, collaboration and well-being. The structural work made a flexible, open layout possible, with expansive light-filled areas and a mix of individual and group work zones.

Preston County Emergency Services Building

Kingwood, WV · Public Safety · 6,200 SF

Arrow provided full structural design for a new 6,200 SF facility housing Preston County's 911 Call Center and Office of Emergency Services. Precast concrete sandwich wall panels give the building thermal efficiency, a fast build and a robust envelope, paired with steel joists and metal roof deck for efficient long spans. Arrow coordinated with the Preston County Commission on a low-maintenance structure for mission-critical, round-the-clock use.

Optima Belle, Building 216 Rebuild

Belle, WV · Industrial · Three-Story Heavy Steel Frame

Arrow designed a three-story, heavy steel-framed building for chemical-industry use. Because the site sits near the river, the foundation uses concrete caissons drilled to bedrock, reinforced concrete grade beams and structural slabs at the first floor. Two elevated floors carry heavy equipment loads, with coordinated penetrations for process equipment. Exterior egress stairs provide code-compliant exits.

Anna Jarvis Elementary School

Grafton, WV · Education · 60,000 SF

The project is a new two-story, roughly 60,000 SF building on the site of the existing Anna Jarvis Elementary School. The structure uses reinforced masonry bearing walls and a steel-framed roof. Arrow built the whole structure in a single model, from foundations to roof, and coordinated closely with the architecture, civil site work, MEP and fire suppression systems.

WV Culture Center, South Garden

Charleston, WV · State Capitol Complex · Restoration

Arrow supported the modernization of the Culture Center's South Garden at the State Capitol Complex, including a new 110-foot ADA-compliant ramp connecting the basement level to the upper sidewalk. The project also overhauled the stormwater system to address long-standing flooding, and added outdoor exhibit areas, raised planting beds and seat walls, each detailed to work with the Culture Center's historic structure.

Capitol Complex Warehouse & Grounds Buildings

Charleston, WV · State Government · Three Buildings

For the State of West Virginia's General Services Division, the project added three facilities to support the Capitol Complex: a 28,000 SF warehouse, a 5,000 SF Buildings and Grounds facility and a 3,000 SF mail room building. Arrow designed the deep foundation systems, grade beams and structural slabs for all three, coordinating foundation elements across varying site and loading conditions.

Armory Pharma

Buckhannon, WV · Adaptive Reuse · Completed 2021

Arrow joined the architectural design team to convert a former West Virginia National Guard armory into a pharmaceutical grow facility, completed in 2021. The work centered on internal structural modifications: an extensive equipment mezzanine within the existing envelope, and new columns placed around a fixed arrangement of grow pods. The conversion kept the core of the original building.

Belltown Commons

Powell, TN · Commercial / Mixed-Use · Three Buildings

Arrow was Structural Engineer of Record for multiple buildings in Belltown Commons, the commercial center of Belltown, a 300-acre master-planned community in Powell, Tennessee, developed by Smithbilt Homes. Arrow's scope covered a 5,000 SF retail building, a 12,000 SF daycare and a 2,000 SF retail and restaurant building with a wraparound deck. Each uses light-framed wood or structural steel on shallow spread footings, coordinated with Oysk3 Architects across the district.

Mason County Sheriff's Office

Point Pleasant, WV · Civic / Historic Façade Repair

Arrow investigated the structural and visual condition of the building's façade and recommended targeted repairs to the weathered masonry and corroded steel lintels. Salvaged brick was worked into the front elevation to match the historic character, and new galvanized lintels were installed at the windows to prevent future corrosion.

Launch Complex 39

Cape Canaveral, FL · Video Board Supports

At the historic Launch Complex 39, Arrow designed structural frames and cabinets for new video boards on the viewing gantry, in advance of NASA's Artemis II mission. The supports were integrated into the existing gantry structure to carry large-scale display equipment safely in a high-demand environment.

Baltimore Inner Harbor LED Signage

Arrow designed the structural support systems for new LED signage on the Power Plant Building at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The work required careful coordination to mount the display systems on the existing façade while keeping its structural integrity on a highly visible waterfront.

Saratoga Performing Arts Center LED Installation

Saratoga Springs, NY · LED Display Supports

Arrow provided structural engineering for a signature LED installation at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), a destination for world-class music, dance and cultural events. The design supports a visually striking feature that enhances the audience experience while respecting the character of this open-air venue, set within a 2,400-acre park preserve.

Argyle High School Video Board

Argyle, TX · Stadium Video Board Structure

Arrow provided structural engineering for the new video display at Eagle Stadium, home of Argyle High School. The project supports a 16' x 25' portable LED video board system built to elevate the game-day experience. The structure was engineered for the demands of a large-format, high-resolution display, including wind loading, equipment access and long-term durability, while fitting cleanly into the existing stadium.

Bush Convention Center LED Wall

Midland, TX · LED Display Wall

Arrow provided structural evaluation, design support and installation detailing for a large-format LED display wall in the central corridor of the Barbara & George H.W. Bush Convention Center in Midland, Texas. The screen sits in a high-volume lobby with multi-story glazing, long-span framing and high ceilings.

Dorsey's Knob Lodge

Morgantown, WV · Parks & Recreation · Renovation, 2023

Arrow provided structural engineering for the complete renovation of the lodge at Dorsey's Knob Park in Morgantown. The goal was to expand the lodge's ability to host weddings, parties, corporate events and other gatherings. Arrow partnered with a local designer and landscape architect to bring the owner's vision to life. The renovation included a new wraparound deck and patio overlooking the park, and the lodge reopened to guests in 2023.

Urse Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram

Fairmont, WV · Commercial · Auto Dealership

Arrow provided structural engineering for Urse Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram's dealership in Fairmont. The structure had to match the design intent of the car manufacturer's brand standards, including the feature walls, exterior cladding, canopies and other building systems. The building is framed in structural steel with cold-formed steel stud walls.

WVU Elkins United Hospital Center

Elkins, WV · Healthcare · 47,500 SF

Arrow was Structural Engineer of Record for this 47,500 SF building in Elkins. It houses multiple physician office suites, community care space, X-ray rooms and a pad for a mobile MRI unit. Site conditions required a deep foundation system to support the building.

Mountain Lodge Deck Additions

Snowshoe, WV · Resort Residential · 229 Units

This project added private decks to all 229 units of the existing Mountain Lodge community at Snowshoe, giving every unit its own outdoor space. The decks are framed in structural steel with waterproof aluminum deck boards. Because the building sits on the second-highest peak in West Virginia, the decks were designed for high wind loads.

Citizens Amphitheater

Arrow designed the structural steel amphitheater on the Davis & Elkins College campus in Elkins. Arrow worked directly with the steel fabricator to bring the owner's vision to life.

West Virginia State Capitol & Dome

Charleston, WV · Historic Preservation · National Register

This project covered the investigation and restoration of the Main Capitol Building's exterior envelope, including the parapet, balustrade and dome. Selective removal of limestone and brick documented the movement, cracking and long-term water infiltration behind the facade, leading to a scope of repairs, budget estimates and construction documents. At the dome and lantern, deteriorated structural steel was probed, tested, repaired and reinforced. The dome was then regilded in its original Cass Gilbert color scheme, and a protective coating was applied to the historic copper. The project received the AIA New York State Merit Award in 2006.
